Why it's worth it: Cakey foundation? We don't know her. Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation is one of our go-tos when we want a lightweight, skin-like finish. After all, radiance is “in” any time of the year. While there are a handful of familiar skin-care ingredients we'd like to spotlight, one we usually don't talk about is…water! "The formula is made of 40% water, leaving the skin hydrated and plump, while the radiant finish helps to create a smooth, glowy, seamless, and skin-like blend," Amrita Mehta, a makeup artist based in New York and LA, told us. This insight totally checks out, since the silky liquid couldn't be easier to blend out. In our experience, the formula is also very conducive to layering without looking heavy or textured, so you can easily add coverage wherever you need it.

"I'm extra picky about foundation and concealer—it has to give me buildable coverage but feel like nothing on my skin, and I adore a somewhat dewy finish. After hearing so many makeup artists rave about the formula, I had a feeling Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation would live up to its name—and it really does. It feels as lightweight as my favorite skin tints but ups the coverage ever so slightly. I usually apply a light second layer in the places I need more coverage—my semi-spotty cheeks, the redness around my nose, etc., and I barely feel the formula at all. I will say B20 looked a little too warm upon first swatch (even though it's labeled as a neutral undertone shade) but it matched my paler-than-usual winter complexion well after I blended everything out with my trusty sponge." —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Why it's worth it: While Chanel's eye shadow quads have been around for years (and super cute and portable, to boot!), the luxury brand reimagined its palettes for the 2025 holiday collection and gave us these beauties, a.k.a. the Les 9 Ombres Eyeshadow Palettes. Available in three absolutely stunning colorways, The Daring Muse, The New Singular, and The Space Traveler (pictured here), these are a makeup lover's dream. Shimmery, matte, metallic–you name it, Les 9 Ombre's got it. Each shade is perfectly soft, blendable, and buildable, but doesn't budge throughout the day or cause fallout while applying. With nine options per palette, the eye look possibilities are pretty much endless, so let your creativity run wild.

“You know what I love more than a Chanel eye shadow quad? Yup, a palette even with more options. What I first laid eyes on the Les 9 Ombres Eyeshadow Palettes, I knew I had to get my hands on one. I was immediately drawn to The Space Traveller because its combination of colors seemed the most wearable, and that pearlescent lavender shade in the top row in particular was screaming my name. It's just so pretty and ethereal; I have no notes! My favorite gel liner just so happens to be a purple/berry, and the two together are a match made in makeup heaven.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

"My itty-bitty lashes always need ample help, and Chanel Le Volume delivers serious volume from the very first swipe but, equally importantly, doesn't make my lashes look overly spidery. I love that Chanel plays with non-black hues in its lineup because your girl can't pass up a brown mascara (I might have to try the blue next!). My only qualm is that it dries out a little faster than I'd like, but that's definitely not unique to this formula. I'll be honest; I didn't have high expectations for this mascara going in, but now it's one of my absolute favorites!" —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Each pot of this creamy cheek and lip tint contains moisturizing camellia oil to plump and condition skin as you wear its long-lasting formula. “I love a multipurpose product and lip and cheek tints are definitely at the top of that list. No. 1 de Chanel Lip and Cheek Balm has a buttery, red camellia oil-infused formula that easily transfers onto the pad of my (clean!) ring finger so I can dab away on my cheeks and lips. Even though it's a tint, shades like Berry Boost don't disappoint in the pigmentation category—I'm left with a pretty flush that I can apply and blend out with just my fingers, or if I'm not in a rush, a blush brush (I'm using Saie's The Double Brush in the clip).” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

I've used these polishes with and without base or top coats, and I've always been impressed by how long they last, even without any protective layers. Why it's worth it: So often our faces and limbs get all the love, but our hands are overlooked—and that neglect shows, especially in the dead of the cold winter months. For some editors, a luxurious hand cream is the constant reminder we need to apply and reapply so our skin always stays supple and soft, instead of dry, irritated, and cracked. Infused with soft floral notes, Chanel's La Crème Main fits right in with the brand's nicely-scented skin-care lineup. But more importantly, this silky treatment delivers long-lasting hydration in the form of its star ingredient, camellia yeast, camellia oil, and camellia ceramides. Why it's worth it: We have high standards when it comes to determining our Allure Best of Beauty Award winners—but even higher standards when we're talking splurges. As evident by the red seal, Chanel's Le Lift Pro Crème Volume makes a worthwhile case. ICYMI: Honey is a super soothing ingredient and can help reduce inflammation and redness by drawing out excess fluid— and Chanel's version is particularly special, a.k.a. melipona enzymatic sourced from Costa Rica. This antimicrobial, moisturizing agent then thrives in harmony with a host of near-and-dear-to-us ingredients, such as glycerin, shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and cica. And unlike many of Chanel's other skin-care offerings, it's fragrance-free, making it all the more accommodating for sensitive skin. Frequently Asked Questions

How we test and review products

Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?

For our review of the best Chanel products, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, and contributors to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Orange isn't the first color you think of when you think about the holiday season, but when you're Kylie Jenner (and Timothée Chalamet, for that matter), you don't have to play by those made-up rules! The high-profile pair walked the red carpet in head-to-toe tangerine for the premiere of Chalamet's new movie Marty Supreme and you know Jenner's manicure was on point and on theme for the evening.

Jenner and Chalamet both wore custom Chrome Hearts for the event, and Jenner matched her mani almost exactly to her cutout leather gown and her boyfriend's matching suit. After a long period of sticking to shorter lengths, Jenner has been all about the long nail again, and this set (by Zola Ganzorigt, Jenner's go-to nail artist) is no exception. However, instead of her current favorite shape, the almond, she opted for a classic coffin instead.

And the color! This is absolutely, positively orange, as though you plucked the Mac & Cheese Crayola crayon out of the box and melted it down for your manicure or found color inspiration from a construction zone and its signature orange traffic cones. It's bright, crisp, and citrusy—not a Halloween orange or a rusty fall orange, but a true-blue tangerine orange.

I don't know about you, but this all-orange-everything moment was exactly what I needed to jolt me out of my Tuesday blahs. The color is so bold and cheerful, you really can't help but smile when you see it, and if you were wearing it on your hands, all the better! When it comes to winter manicure colors, orange doesn't generally pop up in the list of most iconic shades—the season is typically about rich reds, jewel tones, and shimmers—but it does brighten things up in a matter of seconds. (It's also been the signature shade of the Marty Supreme marketing, including orange blimps flying around to promote the movie, not to mention one of the colors of Chalamet's beloved New York Knicks!) If you're craving vibrant, vivid, mouthwateringly bright color this season, orange you glad orange exists?

The FDA Proposed the Approval of a New Sunscreen Filter Called Bemotrizinol

If you're familiar with the sunscreen world—and you should be, considering we should all be wearing SPF every single day—you know that America is way behind in sunscreen innovation. This is in part because in the US, sunscreen is regulated as a drug rather than a cosmetic, which means it has to undergo robust testing via the Food & Drug Administration before hitting shelves. However, the FDA has finally taken a step toward approving a new active sunscreen ingredient (also called a filter), which would be the first major sunscreen-related approval since 1999—yes, 1999!

On December 11, the administration announced a formal proposal to add bemotrizinol to the list of approved active ingredients for over-the-counter sunscreens. According to the FDA, bemotrizinol (or BEMT) “provides protection against both ultraviolet A and B rays, has low levels of absorption through the skin into the body, and rarely causes skin irritation.” Should BEMT approvals be finalized, it will be considered safe and effective by the FDA and recommended for use for adults and children ages six months and older.

“The agency has historically moved too slowly in this area, leaving Americans with fewer options than consumers abroad. We’re continuing to modernize the regulation of sunscreen and other over-the-counter drug products,” FDA commissioner Marty Makary, M.D., M.P.H., said in a statement. “Americans deserve timely access to the best safe, effective, and consumer-friendly over-the-counter products available.”

In the past, the FDA has declined to comment on its approval timelines, and it'll likely be a long while until products formulated with BEMT are approved and made available. In the meantime, interested parties can review the full amendment proposal. Starting December 12, anyone interested can participate in the public comment process, which allows Americans to share direct feedback with the FDA for or against a proposal. If you've got strong feelings about sunscreen, it may be time to hop in the FDA's comments.

Cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos previously wrote in Allure that chemists in the US have a “pretty limited toolbox” for sunscreen formulation: just 16 active sunscreen ingredients, only eight of which are commonly used. For contrast, in Japan, formulators can choose from over 30 approved filters. According to Dobos, who attended the 2025 Sunscreen Symposium, BEMT is manufactured by DSM-Firmenich, which has been trying to get the ingredient approved in the US for 20 years; it cost them roughly $20 million to bring it to market.

BEMT approval will give cosmetic chemists another ingredient in their toolbox, and Dobos praises it for its efficiency. BEMT provides “true broad-spectrum protection with two distinct absorption peaks, one in the UVA range and one in UVB,” she explains, which means better defense against both sunburns and aging rays. “Unlike older filters that often require high concentrations to achieve adequate SPF, BEMT allows chemists to use lower overall levels of actives while still meeting high SPF and UVA protection targets,” Dobos tells Allure. It may also improve the sunscreen experience: “We can make products with lighter texture and less greasiness in formulations. And, like other organic filters, it's transparent on the skin.”

The American Academy of Dermatologists is also on board with BEMT. “Unprotected exposure to UV rays is a major risk factor for skin cancer, the most common cancer in the United States,” AAD president Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD, said in a statement, noting that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. “Because dermatologists see firsthand the impact that skin cancer has on patients and their families, they recommend everyone apply sunscreen, seek shade, and wear protective clothing to protect their skin from sunburn, early skin aging, and skin cancer. The Academy has been advocating for many years for the availability of more sunscreen options for US consumers. The United States lags behind many other countries that have nearly twice as many approved sunscreen ingredients.”

Dobos says she's “very excited” about BEMT and putting it to work in sunscreen formulations. “Many times in the past, I felt like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls that football away just as he's about to attempt a kick, as progress would start and stall,” she says. “I've been following this my entire career. But this time, it finally feels like we're really going to get a new sunscreen active.”

    TL;DR:

    • What it is: A dry shampoo and hair oil
    • What it does: The dry shampoo sops up greasy roots while the oil adds shine and smooths fly-aways
    • Who it’s for: Anyone looking to refresh hair in a pinch

It’s no secret that I’m a lazy beauty director. I opt for the easiest, simplest way to apply and wear my products—and that is absolutely true of my hair care. Because I only wash my hair once a week (I have fine, thin hair, it can’t be bothered!), by mid-week, I usually need a quick refresh to give it both life and love.

My roots are usually the first to show signs of wear and tend to get greasy by day four, while my ends dry out and appear brittle. When that happens, I’ll call in the troops: dry shampoo and hair oil. Right now, I’m loving the Fekkai Clean Stylers Sheer Dry Shampoo and Fekkai Super Strength+ Everystrong Bonding Hair Oil. The weightless dry shampoo sops up oil with kaolin clay (without the telltale white cast), while the featherlight elixir—made with sunflower and moringa seed oils—smooths strands, tames frizz, and gives a sleek, shiny finish.

You’d think applying dry shampoo would be pretty self-explanatory, but it’s actually required trial and error over the years to reduce residue and avoid tacky texture. Here’s what works for me: First, I shake the can and then spritz (about six inches from roots) directly into areas that need a little TLC, like at the scalp, nape of neck, and in between slippery strands. I actually skip spraying directly onto roots because that’s where you’ll see it most, and the point is to not see it. Then I’ll finger-comb around those areas and zhuzh where necessary to ensure all of the white powder is blended and concealed. This also helps to add volume around the crown, which my flat hair desperately needs.

Then I’ll follow it up with a drop or two of the oil (after warming up in my hands) and gently rake it through dry hair from midlengths to ends. You can use the oil on damp hair, too, but I like it best right after dry shampoo. The result? An instantly refreshed style that looks great and smells cleaner… even four days after shampooing.

Wondering why your face feels tight after cleansing, your body gets itchy the second the weather changes, and daily shaving leaves your cheeks looking irritated? Here’s the truth: Your skin barrier is taking a beating. It’s the protective outer layer that's meant to keep hydration in and irritants out, and we put it through a lot. Hot showers, over-cleansing, skipping moisturizer, not using SPF consistently, and aggressive shaving can all chip away at the barrier until the skin becomes dry, red, reactive, or just uncomfortable.

As a licensed esthetician since 2021, I see this all the time–particularly in my male patients, who often put their sensitive skin through constant shaving and lack consistent skin care routines. And, as a guy, I’ve also personally dealt with barrier issues. The products below are ones I use and love because they make a noticeable difference. If you want healthier, calmer, smoother skin, start here.

    Strawberry Moon Grinding Cleansing Balm

    Ulta Beauty

Why I recommend it: If you wear sunscreen daily and reapply it often (hint: you should!) or wear makeup (even just some concealer), then starting your P.M. routine with a cleansing balm makes all the difference. I love this one's strawberry-sorbet scent and how nourishing it feels thanks to moringa oil, which works to melt sunscreen and makeup effortlessly while moisturizing skin. It pairs perfectly with a gel cleanser and keeps the barrier happy, since there’s no harsh rubbing or stripping required to get everything off.

Why I recommend it: I love this cleanser because it’s truly gentle, but still makes my skin feel super-clean after I rinse. It’s a gel formula powered by gentle surfactants, which are cleansing agents that help remove dirt, sweat, and sunscreen, as well as amino acids to protect your skin barrier. If you usually avoid cleansers because they leave your face feeling tight or dehydrated, then this is the one to try.

Why I recommend it: This is one of the most elegant and reliable barrier-repair creams I’ve used. I like that it’s rich but not heavy, and made with deeply moisturizing ingredients—like squalane, a fatty acid that's naturally found in the skin barrier—for compromised skin. When my face feels tight, irritated, or raw from over-exfoliation, this cream brings it back to life. It gives you that immediate comforting effect while also supporting deeper barrier recovery.

Why I recommend it: It’s easy to focus all your attention on your face and overlook the skin on your body, but the barrier from your neck down needs support, too. This wash is rich in niacinamide (which can rev up ceramide production for a stronger moisture barrier) and shea butter, which is packed with fatty acids that work together with the lipids in your skin to help your barrier function properly. And it’s even been accepted by the National Eczema Association (which vets the formula for safety and gentleness). Bottom line? It’s a game-changer for dry or sensitive skin, helping keep skin balanced and comfortable from head to toe.

Why I recommend it: The best time to lock in moisture is right after a shower—since it's an opportunity to seal in any hydration your skin absorbed—ideally with this everyday body lotion. It’s lightweight and fast-absorbing, and won’t leave you feeling greasy while you get dressed. I love the inclusion of vitamins B3 (a.k.a. niacinamide) to boost ceramide production and B5 (a.k.a. panthenol) to soothe irritation. It’s affordable, reliable, and easy to build into your daily routine.

    Dermstore

Why I recommend it: Your barrier can’t repair itself well if it’s getting hit with UV damage every day. This is my go-to sunscreen for sensitive or winter-worn skin because it supports recovery while also calming visible redness. The green tint neutralizes windburn or flushing, and the SPF 50 mineral protection is ideal for compromised skin, as mineral sunscreens tend to be gentler than chemical sunscreens. (They sit on top of skin to reflect UV rays instead of being absorbed, as chemical filters are.) I wear this often on cold days or after an in-office treatment, when my skin needs some extra care.

    Remedy

Why I recommend it: The skin barrier on the lips is much thinner and more fragile than that on the rest of your skin, which is why dry, cracked lips can happen year-round—but they're especially common in the winter. That's why this lip treatment has quickly become one of my go-tos; I love how nourishing (not sticky) it feels. Keep one on your nightstand and another in your work bag or pocket, so you always have one handy.

Moisturizing Balm: KaramMD Enriched Breathable Barrier Balm

    KaramMD

    Enriched Breathable Barrier Balm

    $100 $70 (30% off)

    KaramMD

Why I recommend it: I use this balm at night, when my skin needs a little more TLC. Think of it as a breathable seal—a thin, not-too-heavy layer over your moisturizer that helps lock everything in. Thanks to ultra-hydrating cupaçu butter, it’s perfect for what I call “micro-slugging,” or supporting your skin with extra cushion and support overnight so you wake up to a noticeably calmer, more hydrated complexion.

Face Mask: Dr. Sam’s Flawless Revival Mask

Flawless Revival Mask in branded white tube with cap on light gray background

    Flawless Revival Mask

    $54 $49 (9% off)

    Dr. Sam's

Why I recommend it: This is the product I reach for when my skin needs intensive help. Niacinamide, soothing plant oils, and a barrier-boosting lipid complex make this mask incredibly comforting. You can use it for 10 minutes for a quick reset, but I also love applying it as an overnight mask when my skin feels compromised.

    The Takeaway

A strong skin barrier changes everything: It can support hydration, comfort, clarity, and even how well your skin tolerates shaving. In my practice, I’ve found that we men often weaken our barriers without realizing it by using harsh, stripping cleansers, skipping moisturizer because we assume we don’t need it, or shaving over already irritated skin. Inconsistent routines also play a huge role—your skin can’t repair itself if you’re constantly changing products.

These are the products I trust, use, and recommend to my clients because they effectively restore and maintain the barrier. Commit to using a few of them consistently, and your skin will look and feel better every day.

Behind the doors of an unassuming winter vestibule, a thriller-obsessed audience gathered at the Metrograph theater in New York City’s Lower East Side. Outside, temperatures were in the 30s; inside, the crowd’s white-hot anticipation surged. On Wednesday, December 3, Allure and Lionsgate invited more than 150 people for an exclusive screening of The Housemaid, the film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s runaway hit novel, ahead of its theatrical release on December 19.

The film, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney, and directed by Paul Feig (of A Simple Favor and Bridesmaids fame), follows down-on-her-luck Millie (Sweeney), who seizes an opportunity for employment as the live-in help for an affluent family: Nina (Seyfried) and Adam Winchester (Brendan Sklenar) and their daughter, Cecelia. Millie soon finds that unimaginable secrets percolate at the Winchester estate—locked away behind a luxurious W-monogrammed gate.

While champing at the bit to view the film, the crowd chomped on an array of hors d’oeuvres—ricotta crostinis, beef skewers, a seemingly endless supply of French fries, and chicken parmesan sliders—and snapped photos in front of the Allure x Lionsgate-branded step and repeat banner to blast on social channels. This is, after all, #BookTok’s most-anticipated film adaptation of the year.

Themed drinks sloshed in free hands: the Nina, featuring jalapeño- and cilantro-infused tequila, and the Millie, the fashionable older cousin of a vodka soda, elevated by strawberry, elderflower, and lime. Most vital, though, was the snack wall, with an assortment of popcorn, classic movie theater candies, and nonalcoholic beverages. For those with the most exquisite and refined palates, certain candies, like Reese’s Pieces, were available chilled. (For me, this was the night’s greatest thrill!)

Guests enjoyed signature cocktails inspired by the two main characters in The Housemaid: “The Nina” and “The Millie.”

As coupe glasses were drained, the audience funneled into the theater, where they were greeted by Allure’s associate beauty director, Sarah Kinonen, who introduced Feig, producers Todd Lieberman and Carly Kleinbart Elter from Hidden Pictures, Laura Fischer from Feigco Entertainment, Seyfried, Sweeney, and Michele Morrone, who plays Enzo. Notably missing from the event, though, was McFadden, who Lieberman described as “press shy.” (For anyone not in the know, myself included until shortly after the screening, McFadden is the author’s pseudonym. And in addition to being a best-selling author, she is also a Harvard-educated doctor, specializing in the treatment of brain disorders. For some, God giveth with two hands!)

Standing in front of the screen, which read in bold letters, “Please Do Not Reveal Any Spoilers,” Sweeney, wearing a burgundy off-the-shoulder sweater and sporting loose, honey-blonde curls, spoke about Metrograph’s cool factor, which is high praise coming from a Euphoria alum.

Feig then shared his excitement about returning to theatrical releases: “My last few movies have been with [streaming services], and it’s just not fun to make [a movie] that nobody gets to see together,” sparking the ubiquitous debate about movie theater versus at-home viewing. “This is not a church, so you don’t have to watch this in silence,” Feig said. “[The movie] is dark, it’s got some crazy stuff…but at the same time, it’s also supposed to be kind of fun.” The entire cast joined in goading the audience to share their enthusiasm freely and loudly. Liebermann asked who in the audience had read the book. “You all are in for a wild ride,” he said. “And those of you who have not, you’re in for a wild ride, too.”

And react the audience did. While you, dear reader, will receive nary a crumb of intel regarding the kooky twists and turns that spurred audience reactions, they went as follows: “Uh oh,” was yelped over tossed popcorn. “Oh, hell no,” was said, while squinting between fingers. And “Oop,” followed each gasp at every bombshell plot twist.

Reactions persisted in increasing intensity as we realized throughout the film’s two hours and 11 minutes that movie-watching is a group activity. As the credits rolled, the audience departed to their Ubers, likely reflecting on the night's greatest lessons: All movies should begin with light appetizers, greetings from the cast, and a free-for-the-taking assortment of treats.

Of course, I said I won’t divulge any secrets, but I can confirm the film does deliver on its claims—it’s entertaining, sexy, and thrills absolutely abound. However, I’d be remiss not to send out a call to action for any eagle-eyed, beauty-obsessed filmgoers. There’s one thing that’s stuck with me post-screening: Can anyone confirm if Sweeney’s character, Millie, uses Redken or Kérastase shampoo? My DMs are open.

    TL;DR:

    • What it is: Shampoo and conditioner
    • What it does: Cleans and then nourishes hair
    • Who it’s for: Anyone looking for a shampoo and conditioner that deeply washes and conditions hair of all types

I only wash my hair on Sundays, and when I do, it’s usually with the same shampoo and conditioner, week after week. I’m a creature of habit, what can I say? When I find something that works—and works well—I have to use it to the very last drop. And I’ve definitely done that with the Luseta Manuka Honey Shampoo and Manuka Honey Conditioner.

The dynamic duo has become a shower staple over the last couple of months, and it’s not just for its easily recognizable gold packaging. It’s actually what’s on the inside of those bottles that keeps me coming back.

Manuka honey has been long-loved for its earthy taste and ability to support the immune system (thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties), but did you know it’s pretty great for hair, too? Especially in this shampoo. The cleansing formula— including nourishing argan oil and hydrating panthenol, along with the honey—smooths and softens strands as it washes them.

And as for the conditioner, don’t worry, it has the sweet stuff too! And it’s even more complex, thanks to the addition of royal jelly extract—a fancy way of saying “honey bee secretion.” The formula, which also includes hyaluronic acid, deeply hydrates hair and gives it a syrup-like shine.

Here’s how I use them during my Sunday ritual Everything Shower: I first massage a dollop of the shampoo gel into wet hair, starting at the scalp and working down to the ends. Because I’m only washing one day out of the week, I like to double shampoo to really get out the gunk and grit, so I repeat that entire process again before rinsing and moving on to the conditioner.

After rinsing out the Luseta shampoo, I then rake the rich conditioner into my hair from crown to ends. My hair is on the finer, thinner side, so I always skip the scalp and move the thick cream down to my midlengths to avoid weighing hair down once it’s dry.

If I have time to spare (usually when I’m shaving my legs), I’ll treat the conditioner like a hair mask and keep it on for a few minutes before rinsing. Once I’m out of the shower, I brush out my hair, braid it into a single plait, and then go to bed. The next morning, I always wake up with soft, shiny hair that feels and smells fresh and clean.

You can find the Lusta Manuka Honey Shampoo and Manuka Honey Conditioner, along with other editor-loved products, in the December Allure Beauty Box.

When this glowing, futuristic face contraption entered my home, my two kids immediately dubbed it “Mommy’s dress-up helmet.” Fair. But the TheraFace Mask Glo isn’t just good for my kids' entertainment, it’s Therabody’s latest full-face, at-home device, expanding the brand’s viral lineup of wellness tools. It arrives amid the surge of LED masks dominating TikTok and skin-care shelves over the last couple of years, all promising brighter, firmer, clearer skin in less time than taking a decent shower.

TheraFace Glo sets itself apart by slightly reducing the LED count compared with the original mask, but extending the session to a full 12 minutes—a deliberate choice that keeps the light “dose” effective while making the mask lighter, more breathable, and more comfortable for daily use (which is important). Unlike competitors' masks with shorter cycles, which are usually a selling point, it ensures that each wavelength gets enough time on the skin to trigger benefits before moving on, so you’re not sacrificing results for speed. And finally, because it doesn’t have a mouth hole, the mask delivers more uniform coverage across the lower face, where fine lines often show up.

After four weeks of testing and plenty of expert input from dermatologists, I have thoughts. Here’s how it works, what sets it apart, and whether it truly deserves a place in your routine (and on your face).

What Is the TheraFace Mask Glo?

The next iteration of the 2024 Allure Best of Beauty Award-winning TheraFace LED Mask, the TheraFace Mask Glo is a full-face, cordless, LED light therapy device that delivers three clinically supported wavelengths—red, blue, and infrared—meaning it uses the same light ranges shown in studies to stimulate collagen, reduce inflammation, and target acne-causing bacteria. In the simplest terms, it’s a wearable mask that beams targeted light into the skin to help improve firmness, texture, tone, and breakouts, all without downtime, pain, or lasers.

Therabody’s clinical testing, backed by the largest study of any LED mask on the market, shows that with consistent use (12-minute sessions, 6 times a week for 12 weeks), participants saw significant improvements. When it comes to the numbers, after 12 weeks of consistent use, the clinical results showed major wins: You can expect a 25.4% bump in radiance and luminosity, noticeably smoother skin texture by 22.9%, and a 13.5% jump in firmness. Plus, the study recorded a 10% decrease in visible skin sagging and 11% improvement in overall skin tone evenness.

The brand pairs red and near-infrared light for aging concerns, and blue light for breakouts. “I’ve seen real results from LED lights both in studies and in my own patients. These wavelengths can boost collagen production, improve skin texture, and calm mild acne,” says Hannah Kopelman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City.

Red, blue, and infrared each work best within specific wavelength ranges: 630–635nm for red, 405–450nm for blue, and 800–850nm for infrared. “Those are the sweet spots that effectively penetrate the skin, stimulate collagen, and reduce inflammation,” says Cheryl Karcher, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City.

The TheraFace Mask Glo cycles through all three wavelengths in four-minute intervals, or you can stick with just one if you want to target a specific concern. So whether you’re trying to soften fine lines, keep the occasional breakouts in check, or just brighten up dull skin, it’s basically a one-and-done device.

How the TheraFace Mask Glo Stands Out

The LED mask category has grown crowded, but the Glo stands apart in a few ways:

    It’s a more contoured fit.

The TheraFace Mask Glo has a more sculpted, face-hugging shape than many LED masks on the market, thanks to its cushioned eye surrounds and adjustable Velcro strap that help it sit securely without slipping. One big difference: There’s no mouth hole, which makes the fit feel more enclosed but also allows the LEDs to treat the fine lines around the mouth more evenly than masks that leave the area uncovered.

It has three clinically proven wavelengths.

Some LED masks stick to just red light, while others toss in blue light but skip infrared. The Glo, like the original TheraFace Mask, covers all three, bringing it much closer to the treatment combinations seen in actual clinical studies. And because LED results depend entirely on using the right wavelengths, Dr. Karcher notes that the Glo hits that sweet spot across the board: red light around 630nm to help soften fine lines and brighten dark spots, red plus infrared at roughly 630nm and 830nm to dive deeper and support collagen, and blue light at 415nm to target acne-causing bacteria.

Christa Joanna LeeIt’s lighter than the OG.

Yes, the original TheraFace Mask has more LEDs, but it’s also heavier and less practical. The Glo pares things down slightly (504 LEDs instead of 648) to make it more comfortable, which makes it easier to commit to using it multiple times a week.

    It’s completely cordless.

Many LED masks require a wired controller or plug-in pack, which doesn’t encourage movement. The Glo is completely cordless, so yes, you could putter around the house while wearing it, but I found it much comfier just to stay still and enjoy the moment (more on that later).

    It’s FDA-cleared.

FDA clearance means the device has undergone a specific review process and been deemed substantially equivalent to existing medical-grade LED technology—a level of scrutiny that no-name versions you might stumble across from third-party retailers don't usually undergo. “It’s important to consider the certification, as only some LED devices are certified for medical purposes,” says Dr. Karcher.

    My Skin Goals

At 38, my biggest skin-care complaints are probably pretty relatable for anyone with mature skin: dullness, fine lines settling in around my eyes, and the occasional stress-induced breakout. I have melasma, and the only thing that’s ever made a real dent in it has been prescription tretinoin, which I use only in the winter because of the sun sensitivity side effect. The idea that an LED mask could support my skin year-round without those same limitations feels promising.

Lee using the TheraFace Mask Glo in multiple modes.

    Christa Joanna Lee

As a first-time full-face LED mask user, I didn’t know what to expect, but Dr. Karcher says an LED mask can help with most of my skin concerns—as long as I stick to it. “Most studies show the effect is modest and depends heavily on at least three to five treatments per week for at least 4 to 10 weeks,” she says. TheraFace actually recommends using the mask daily for 12 weeks, and since I barely deal with acne and often skipped the blue-light cycle, my sessions were more like eight minutes, which made the routine feel much more manageable.

    How It Works

The TheraFace Mask Glo has a snug, face-hugging fit. The soft suction cups around the eyes help block light and keep the mask from sliding, and the adjustable Velcro strap lets you tighten or loosen it, depending on how cozy you want it to feel. There’s no mouth opening, which makes the mask feel a little more enclosed—and for me, that sometimes meant my breathing felt slightly restricted. But it also means the LEDs actually reach the fine line–prone area around the mouth, something many other masks miss. It may be a couple of ounces lighter than the original TheraFace Mask, but I still found it the most comfortable to use while lying down or reclining. While it’s cordless, the mask is thick enough that your peripheral vision disappears, so wandering around the house felt a bit risky.

Prep is pretty straightforward: Make sure you start with clean, dry skin, since that’s when LED works best. “I like to use LED therapy on clean skin before applying serums or moisturizer. It helps the skin absorb products more effectively and reduces irritation from active ingredients,” says Dr. Kopelman.

Using the device is refreshingly uncomplicated as there’s zero setup, no syncing to an app, and no learning curve. The left button controls vibration therapy, which is meant to boost circulation. The button on the right side powers it on and lets you flip between modes: four minutes of red light for collagen and tone, four minutes of red + infrared for deeper wrinkle and elasticity support, or four minutes of blue light for acne. You can also just let it run the full 12-minute cycle. In terms of frequency, “most studies show the effect depends heavily on at least three to five treatments per week for at least 4 to 10 weeks,” says Dr. Karcher. TheraFace actually recommends using the mask daily for 12 weeks.

    My Experience and Results

LED masks are definitely an investment, but if you’re someone like me who’s juggling kids, deadlines, and an ever-expanding mental load, it was a bit tougher to use the TheraFace Mask Glo every single night. I ended up using it about four evenings a week, and, as Dr. Kopelman reminded me, “skipping sessions slows everything down.” A few minutes a day doesn’t sound like much, but after a long night wrestling through the bath-and-bedtime routine with my kids, even the idea of putting on moisturizer can feel like a heavy lift.

Because I rarely deal with acne and often skipped the blue-light step, my sessions were more like eight minutes, which made the routine feel far more manageable. Hoping to make them shorter, I asked Dr. Karcher whether the infrared step was truly essential. Turns out, it is if you’re chasing smoother-looking skin: Those longer wavelengths “increase collagen synthesis and improve skin elasticity more effectively than red light alone.” So I did what I could—not perfect consistency, but hey, that’s real life.

Still, after four weeks, my skin looked smoother and brighter, plus the fine lines around my eyes appeared noticeably softer. Even though I skipped the blue-light step most days, I (maybe not so coincidentally?) haven’t had a real breakout. As for the experience, there’s no heat, pain, or tingling—just bright light, made comfortable by the eye shields, which meant I could even read a book during sessions. The vibration therapy is a nice addition, and unlike the original TheraFace Mask, it’s more dispersed and subtle across the face. However, it wasn’t something I felt compelled to use every time.

The one thing I haven’t noticed much improvement in yet is my melasma. “For deeper wrinkles, significant sagging, or pigment issues like melasma, I rely on other treatments, and LED serves more as a supportive therapy,” says Dr. Kopelman. But since the most dramatic LED results typically show up closer to the 12-week mark, I’m cautiously optimistic that the best may still be ahead.

    Is It Worth It?

You’d be hard-pressed to find a dermatologist who’d call any LED mask (or any beauty product) a miracle. But is this one of the most convenient, credible, and genuinely user-friendly, at-home LED masks I’ve tested? Absolutely. The trio of clinically validated wavelengths, cordless design, thoughtful fit, and FDA clearance make it an easy yes in my book. And if “Mommy’s dress-up helmet” keeps my skin smoother and buys me a few blissfully uninterrupted minutes in the name of “research” every day? That’s the kind of magic I can get behind.

You couldn’t escape the aughts without overhearing someone say, “You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.” I think of that 2009 quote by Kim Kardashian a lot, as it perfectly captures how far we’ve come in our appreciation of tattoos. What was once seen as taboo or tacky is now a commonly accepted form of expression. Tattoos capture feelings (even if it’s just “I’m bored after work”), honor the people who’ve had a hand in shaping our personalities (think: a tribute to a relative who has passed or, in my case, the Spice Girls ink on my left bicep), and freeze moments in time.

Tattoos also tell stories. They reflect a sense of time, place, and our cultural experience. The trends of 2026 will capture the coming year’s vibes, just as the fingerstache summed up the obsession with hipster and twee culture in 2011. See also: the lavender sprig that took over forearms after 2015, the disco ball boom of 2020 (Taylor Swift’s “Mirrorball” might have had something to do with that), and the soaring number of angel-number flash tattoos in the last couple of years.

“I think if you are trying to get a trendy or ‘Pinteresting’ piece, you need to realize just that: It’s trending,” says Jes Valentine, a New York City-based tattoo artist and owner of Haven Studio. “Will that thing you’re thinking of inking matter to you in eight or so years?”

If the lavender sprig is still calling you by your full government name, then book the appointment and wear it with pride. “Own it with intention. If you love a lavender sprig, make it yours—change the flow, add texture, integrate meaning,” says Emmanuel Fortunato, a New York City-based tattoo artist, who adds that the goal shouldn’t be to avoid trends. “Your story makes the tattoo timeless.”

We spoke with tattoo artists regarding the trends they expect to dominate the new year, and if tattoos are any indication, 2026 is shaping up to be a nostalgic and romantic year.

    Your Pet in a Locket

Getting a pet portrait is classic, but Valentine says that more and more of her clients are asking to have them inked inside heart-shaped locket designs. “It’s a trend that the client makes super personal,” she explains, because both elements of the tattoo are highly customizable. Your fur baby can have its toothy smile, for instance, and the locket can be as ornate or understated as you want.

    Nostalgic Themes

Here’s your sign to get that Titanic-inspired “Heart of the Ocean” tattoo or the vibrant Lisa Frank dolphin you once had on your math binder. There’s a growing interest in imagery from the early 2000s, the ’90s, the ’80s, and the ’70s across all ages, says Lindsee Boyer, a tattoo artist in Minneapolis.

Even people who didn’t live through these eras have been getting tattoos inspired by them, Boyer notes: “Young people get excited because the style feels new and fresh to them.”

Valentine echoes this, adding that she’s seeing an interest in motifs from the late ’90s and early ’00s, specifically. “Think tribal designs, cherries, and bows,” she says. “Basically, all the things I got when I was 18, which is fun, but makes me feel super old.”

    Microrealism

If you love the idea of a detailed depiction of your favorite trinket or your go-to bagel order inked onto your person, you’re not alone. This tattoo style has become extremely popular in our artist friends’ shops.

“Microrealism designs are so impressive,” says Kayla O’Connor, a tattoo artist at Fleur Noire’s San Diego studio. “They can be done in full color or black and gray, and are a great option if you decide to go small-scale with your tattoo.”

Carefully consider the placement of this delicate style, O’Connor continues: “You want to avoid getting it in a place that gets a lot of sun exposure, like the top of the forearm, or a place where tight clothing often rubs, such as near your bra and along your waistline,” she says.

    Fine-Line Florals

Delicate, airy, floral pieces are in full bloom. “This style of tattoo shows just enough negative space to highlight both the artwork and the person wearing it,” says Jojo Lu, an Orange County-based tattoo artist at Playink Tattoo Studio, adding that the beauty is in the detail of these designs.

Thanks to the organic shapes created by florals, each piece can be tailored to flatter any placement area. “Floral, geometric, and fine-line pieces are quite versatile,” Lu says. “They work beautifully on the arms, legs, ribs, back, and sternum. These areas provide natural flow and movement that complement these designs well.”

    Ornamental Designs

Ornamental tattoos use fine lines, pointillism, and shading techniques to adorn and enhance the natural contours of your body. With patterns that call back to Art Nouveau aesthetics and lacework, they are as detailed as they are stunning—but it’s important to recognize and understand the significance of motifs rooted in specific cultures. “Sacred geometry has that meditative, almost spiritual quality, and every line has a purpose,” says Fortunato. Before springing for that Mandala or Celtic knot design, make sure to read up on its meaning to avoid appropriating any cultural or spiritual themes.

If your reader pre-orders new releases like it's their job (and what a fun job that would be!), or if they're already talking about next year's most-anticipated reads, then they'll love a gift card to a bookstore. I always recommend shopping locally (they're are so many great independent stores to support), but if for some reason your reader can't, Bookshop.org can help! The online retailer partners with independent shops, so every purchase made onsite will benefit the neighborhood store of your choosing—no matter where you live.

Back in 2020, when sheltering in place was required, my mother-in-law kindly gifted me a Kindle Paperwhite—and it's been my go-to reading companion ever since. But after a few accidental falls and spillage without a protective covering (oops), I needed an upgrade. Enter, the Kobo Clara Colour.

As its name suggests, this e-reader comes in color! (Well, the ink does.) The design itself comes in two different shade options—black or white—and weighs less than half a pound. (I just got the white one.) In terms of what's inside the device, that's completely up to the reader, thanks to its 16 GB storage. You can fill it with all your favorite e-books and audiobooks from the Kobo Store or loaned out directly from your local library via Libby (IYKYK).

With as much traveling as I do and the number of books I read a month (usually around 15!), the lightweight, easily packable, and waterproof (!) e-reader will certainly come in clutch.

It'll hold your electronics in place with its rotating arm, while the middle cubby console will keep your emotional support water bottle and snacks steady—leaving you empty-handed to do…anything!

As someone who has listened to up to 25 audiobooks in a month, having access to a subscription service, like Libro.fm, is a must. Not only will the monthly credits keep your giftee from spending extra on piecemeal audiobooks—which can get costly real fast at $20 a pop—but it'll also keep them in the loop on all of the new releases ahead of launch.

But what makes Libro.fm's platform different than the rest is that when you create an account, you simultaneously select a local bookstore to support. So every credit used (or bought) will directly benefit both Libro.fm and a neighborhood shop. How neat!

You can shop credit bundles for your listener (starting at a two-pack, all the way up to a 24-pack), and when they run out, they can always scour the sales because Libro.fm often has deep discounts on trending books.

Listen…no, literally listen. I don't want to be That Girl who hypes up every single Apple product, but the sound quality of AirPods Max headphones is actually very nice. If your book-loving giftee is as into audiobooks as much as I am, they're going to want the best noise-canceling option on the market, to not only drown out ambient sound but to ensure no one would ever be able to audibly catch them listening to spicy audiobooks in the wild. 😉

Feeling uninspired by your towering TBR? Let fate decide your next read with "Blind Date with a Book." I love this gift's concept because not only does it take the guesswork out of searching stacks and stacks of shelves for a great book, but the surprise element makes it fun for both the gifter and the giftee—no one knows what's been wrapped up until it's opened! If you know your giftee's preferred genre, you can select from a variety of options (romance, fantasy, thriller, etc.), share their Goodreads account, and…voilà! A neatly packaged book, along with some cute extras, like stickers and bookmarks, will be sent straight to the reader recipient—how fun!

Presented without comment. This crewneck, which comes in a variety of colors and sizes, speaks my language. I'll be honest: If I could, I'd be reading right now. Or listening to an audiobook. (Okay, fine, maybe I am currently listening to an audiobook, but that's neither here nor there.) Since I can't read and work at the same time, I'll just wear this sweatshirt in protest. Don't get me wrong, I love my job. I just happen to love reading a little bit more. Gift this pullover to your book-loving friend who feels the same.

Are these quite possibly the most ridiculous things you've ever seen? Yes. Do I still want them? Double yes. As a cozy bed reader, I often jump into my books while I'm horizontal, which one, probably isn't great for my neck and lower back, and two, means I have to hold my Kindle up or MacGyver a makeshift pillow prop to keep my e-reader upright (see above request for a tablet pillow). With these goofy glasses, I can lie completely flat while still being able to read and maintain supreme comfort, thanks to the geniusness of their prism lenses.
